BUSINESS LUNCHEON
Every month, Chamber members have the opportunity to provide updates to each other in person and learn about the common issues and goals of the Historic Northeast business community. Often, members are treated to guest speakers such as the Kansas City , Mo. Police Department, various elected officials and business service providers. The luncheon helps generate operation income for the Chamber and is usually held on the fourth Tuesday of the month beginning at 11:45 a.m.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND REFERRALS
Entrepreneurs who need resources to develop and expand their businesses can find help in the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Staff can provide information, including a list of area resources that can assist business owners develop business plans, asses working capital and acquire necessary business licenses and permits. Chamber members enjoy these services free or at a reduced cost (when outside agencies are involved).

POLITICAL ADVOCACY
The Chamber works closely with our Kansas City Council members, and state, county and sometimes federal legislators to craft policy that benefits businesses in the urban core. The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is covered by the First and Third City Council Districts, Jackson County District 1, the 40th State Representative District, the 10th State Senate District and the 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A Government Relations Committee keeps informed about tax issues, community investment, economic development issues and elections. The Chamber sponsored a candidate debate for the August 3, 2004 primary in conjunction with the League of Women Voters.

BUSINESS TRAINING SEMINARS
The Chamber periodically offers informational and other training seminars to meet workplace needs in Historic Northeast. Training is available on such topics as customer service, team-building, and cultural diversity in the workplace. Fees are generally discounted for Chamber members. The Chamber sponsored free Business Crime Prevention Seminars in 2004 with the KCPD and has sponsored Business Spanish training in the past.

AFTER HOURS
Several times each year, a Chamber member offers to sponsor/host an "After Hours" event. The informal get-together enhances relationships built at monthly luncheons with agendas and is an opportunity for business owners and employees to exchange business cards, discuss products, services and sales, and also to just meet business neighbors who may be only a few blocks away. The Chamber provides historic reprinted postcards with pre-paid postage for After Hours events, as well as a mailing list of members for the host business.

ADVERTISING
In partnership with The Northeast News, the Chamber sponsors a monthly two-page business spread in the weekly community newspaper. The "Chamber Page" features up to 14 businesses who commit to a monthly ad, as well as enjoy an advertising story or write-up once a year. The Chamber Page currently includes some of Historic Northeast's core businesses, like Central Bank of Kansas City , Passantino Bros. Funeral Home and NEighborhood Family Care.

Members also can advertise in the monthly Chamber newsletter, on the Chamber Web site or in the annual "Blue Book" directory published each fall.

NETWORKING
In addition to business-to-business contact and chamber-to-politicians, members of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce have the opportunity to be on the World Wide Web free through the powerful Community Connections database. Contact the Chamber office for more information or see www.communityconnection.org.

A Chamber mailing list is also available to members in the form of ready-to-use labels for a nominal fee.

NEWSLETTER
Chamber members receive monthly newsletters via U.S. mail and e-mail that contain notices for upcoming luncheons, after-hours events, new business openings and seminars, as well as legislative and other news affecting Northeast's business community. Members can also include flyers in the mailed newsletter and are encouraged to spread word about themselves for free in articles appearing in the newsletter. Newsletters usually are produced during the third week of each month.


COMMITTEES
Members and other volunteers can add to the viability of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce by joining various standing committees. Challenges are available for those individuals wanting to increase membership, support neighborhood initiatives, work on government relations and more.

Health, Education, and Public Safety Committee Through collaborative partnerships with Northeast Chamber members, as well as the greater Northeast community, and agency resources, seek to improve the health, education and safety of residents, employees and tourists within the Northeast Kansas City region.
